Surveillance can be extremely boring and takes a great deal of patience. But when you observe your target doing something they’re not supposed to, all the waiting pays off. Whether it’s a case involving a cheating spouse or workers’ compensation claim, the things you witness are priceless at times.
Workers’ compensation cases are some of the more interesting to work. I guess because people filing false or exaggerated work-related injury claims feel that they are really not hurting anyone. The fact remains these types of cases affect all of us because of issues such as higher insurance premiums and lost profits to name a few. It never ceases to amaze me what people will do while they are on an injury related leave. And even more so because they go about their normal routines without giving thought that someone might be watching them.
I guess years of working a lot of surveillance during my police career, this particular aspect of being a private investigator is just second nature to me, and I still enjoy it. There’s a lot to be said for watching and waiting for someone to commit a crime than trying to figure out who did it after the fact (Although I always enjoy that challenge, too). Don’t get me wrong, I don’t enjoy watching people commit crimes and wish they made better decisions in life, but unfortunately it’s inevitable and being part of the solution is rewarding.
Private investigators witness claimants working out in gyms, doing rigorous laborer jobs under the table, remodeling or landscaping their homes, carrying heavy items or packages and many other types of activity that all require a great deal of strength, flexibility, and exertion while feigning a major injury that basically “prohibits” them from doing anything other than light activity or bed-rest. It’s not unusual to see a claimant use a walking aid such as crutches or a cane when walking into a doctor’s office for a visit, only to ditch the devices when they return home and move better than a running back making a 100 yard dash through an entire defensive line.
There are many stories to share but nothing does them justice like viewing the actual videos. Some investigators post them on their websites or Youtube for marketing or training purposes. I am getting ready to start the process of totally overhauling this website with many new features, which will include a lot of media and products.
Being a private investigator has its pros and cons like all other professions. Surveillance is just part of this business and can be very boring, but when you are able to get results there is certainly a great sense of pride and satisfaction that outweighs all the boredom. It's also just as nice proving that a claimant is honest, and they do exist.
